Giving Thanks

Just wanted to share a little with everyone today on this glorious Thanksgiving Day. Thankful for soo many things and wanted to share just a few of them. In my daily devotional the verse for today was Hebrews 11:24. It tells how Moses made the choice to be identified with God’s people rather than the rich Egyptians that he grew up with. The author then went on to say that we cannot truly know ourselves and have freedom until we know our family history. I say BA HUM BUG to that!!

Like Moses, I find my identity in God’s Word. I am His child, He loves me unconditionally , I love and trust Him completely; what could be more freeing than that? Don’t get me wrong, family is important to me. The last few years that my dad was alive, I spent as much time with him as I could, and I am so thankful that I did. I have 3 sisters who all live in different states. I try to see them a couple of times a year. In between we stay in touch via facebook, emails and texting. I am so thankful for our times together and for the technology that helps us stay in touch.

I am thankful that I decided to start my Christmas decorating early this year and should be able to finish it up today. I love Christmas!! This lights, the decorations, the music, it all still stirs me inside! And there is also the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. His birth did not actually happen at this time of the year, but it is nice to celebrate it anyway. I am especially thankful for all that God has done for us, and that Christ chose to die on the cross for us all.

His death on the cross and then being resurrected from the grave has given us true freedom. I am eternally thankful for that!!

Time is Ticking

I find that the main hinderance to my blogging is time. There just never seems to be enough of it. I get caught up in work, taking care of the house and the yard and weeks fly by before I even realize it. And I have so much on my heart that I want share. God has taught me amazing things in my study time and also through amazing teachers that have crossed my path.

One of those teachers is Andrew Farley. His teachings on God’s grace are just amazing. All the scriptures that use to confuse me so much I understand now. And the Bible makes sense to me. There are so many people out there that pull a verse out of context and say it means what ever fits with their message for that day. It’s no wonder so many Christians are confused about who they are and what it actually means to be a Christian.

I started blogging as a way to share these precious truths with others, maybe even you. My desire is to see God’s people truly set free from the bondage of false teachings and realize the freedom that we have in Christ Jesus. What Christ accomplished on the cross for us is truly amazing. I stand in awe of Who God is and all that He has done. I truly am changed person, the old is gone and behold, the new has come. I hope that is your testimony as well.

Back to the time thing, it also seems to take a good deal of time for me to do a post. By the time I write it, then type it out and find just the right picture; it some times takes me hours!! I hope that in time I will get better at it. We are on this earth for such a short period of time, I want to use what I have left wisely and not squander it away.

If you are reading my blog, I want to encourage you to leave a comment, whether good or bad, as I truly want to be a better blogger. I know that there are thousands of bloggers out there, but if just one person gets blessed by something I write, it is all worth the time and effort.

Scripture of the Day

Romans 5:3 – 5 Living Translation

We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trails for we know that they are good for us, they help us learn to be patient. And patience develops strength of character in us and helps us trust God more each time we use it, until finally our hope and faith are strong and steady. Then, when that happens, we are able to hold our heads high no matter what happens and know that all is well, for we know how dearly God loves us, and we feel this warm love every where within us because God has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with His love.

In the Kitchen with God

I love being in the kitchen and I love to bake. I do everything from chocolate chip cookies to cheesecake apple pie. While I love doing pies, they do not always turn out so pretty. The crusts sometimes gets a little too brown or the filling does not quite fill the pie dish. I have learned though, that they almost always taste good!

To be honest, some of us are kind of like my pies.  We do not always look so good on the outside, but that does not matter to God. He created you to be unique and He loves you just the way you are.  You do not need to spend time trying to look right or to look nice before you go to God. He bids us to come to Him just the way we are.

You are beautiful to God even with all the messiness.  You are a treasure in His eyes and you should never doubt His love for you. His love is unconditional and never ending!!  His word says that nothing can separate you from His love and there is no place you can go that God cannot find you.  Never doubt that!!

Real Life

Yesterday when I wrote about the changing of seasons, I hadn’t intended to write about the subject of loss, it just came out of my heart. That same afternoon my husband learned that a friend of his had passed in his sleep two days ago.

My husband had not known this person very long, but they had a lot in common, including the same  first name!  They both worked in the music industry, loved helping others and did a lot of charity work. For the people that knew Tommy, their season has changed dramatically.  Tommy was the type of person that made friends with every one that he met. Most of the people that lived in his neighborhood knew and loved him.  He touched a lot of people and probably impacted more lives than he could ever imagine. I am sure that he will be missed by many.

This event is a sharp reminder as to how fragile and how short life can be. You just never know what might happen, even to you. As I was writing my blog yesterday, I must have known in my spirit that something was happening, just was not in tune enough to know what.

What ever you may be going through in this season of your life, know that God is with you, He loves you and He will never leave you. There is always hope for a better tomorrow.

Changing of the Seasons

For some reason, fall seems to remind us all more than the other seasons, of the changing of the seasons. It is such a beautiful time of the year, the brilliant colors of nature and the changing of the weather. It is one of my most favorite times of the year.

Our spiritual walk, just as in nature, also has a changing of the seasons. For each of us the seasons are different and they change at different times, but we all go through changes.

Ecclesiastes reminds us that there is a time and a season for everything that we go through. The reasons are different for each person; sometimes events are of God’s doing, sometimes they are from our own decisions and sometimes the enemy brings unwanted things into our lives. What we must always remember is that ultimately, God is in control.

We all go through seasons of loss. I have lost both of my parents and its hard, yes, but you must allow yourself to get through it. There is a time for mourning and then you must let go of the mourning and enter again into the joy of the Lord. You cannot allow yourself to continue in the mourning. Let the seasons change.

Romans 8:28 reminds us that God works all things for the good of those who love Him. It matters not to God whether what you are going through is good or bad, He is in control and somehow He will work it for your good. Don’t listen to your feelings, put your trust in God. Don’t look at your circumstances, put your faith in what God is doing! Try to look at everything through the lens of faith and see what God is doing inside your circumstances

Just as the wonderful colors of fall ushers in the harsh cold of winter, which eventually gives in to warmth of spring, so will our lives ever be changing from good to bad and then back to good again. When we put our hope and trust in the Lord, He will be faithful to see us thorough it all. He has promised to never leave us nor forsake us, His promises are true and He loves us with an everlasting love. Be blessed today and know that God is with you!!

Dying To Self – Part 2

Like I was saying in Part 1, there is no longer a need for us to die to or deny ourselves. You are now a new creation in Christ, why would you want to die? Why would God want you to die? God has created you and you have been made alive by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. When Christ died on the cross and then was raised by the power of God, He forgave all your sins. You were, in effect, crucified with Him, your old sinful nature died and your new self was brought to life.

I was raised going to church but did not have a relationship with God. When I left home after high school to attend a business school, I got in with a group of kids that liked to party. I wanted desperately to fit in so I went along with them. For a number of years I lived the good life of drinking and having fun. When I think about some of stuff I did, it’s a miracle that I am still alive. God’s hand was on my life even then and I didn’t even know it. His angel’s were watching over me and kept me from any real harm. I drank a lot but never became an alcoholic, I did drugs but never became addicted and I put myself in harms way a number of times but always survived. I was kept by God!!

When I was in my early 30’s a friend invited me to a service. They had a guest speaker at the church and thought I might be interested. I did go to the service, though I have no idea what the speaker talked about. At the end of their message, the speaker invited people to come to the front, again I do not remember why and I do not remember what a happened. I only remember feeling compelled to go forward. What I do remember is, a few days later, I was sitting on the river bank and a slight breeze came down the canyon. As the breeze passed by me, I heard God (not audibly but in my spirit) say that He had washed me, made me clean and had wiped away all my sin. I had been made brand new! I now had a desire to follow God and do what was right. My mind needed to be renewed for sure and new thought patterns learned, but in my spirit I was brand new.

I stayed at this church for a number years. I served faithfully, got caught up (and bogged down) in works and doing things for the church, but never experienced any real freedom. It has just been the last 5 years that I have been on this journey of being set free from all the bad teachings of the church. Christians love to say that they are free, but they really are not. Their lives are all about works, following the rules of the church and living under the law. That is not freedom!!

If you would like more teachings on these incredible truths that the church has never taught, I highly recommend Andrew Farley’s book Twisted Scriptures. You can also follow him Face Book or down load his free ap AFM.
